GUINEA PIG FOOD & DIET

A complete guide to caring for your guinea pig through proper nutrition and mindful feeding habits.

Guinea pigs are herbivores, which means they eat only plant material.

Guinea Pig Diet

The bulk of a guinea pigs diet should be given to them in the form of grass hay as it reduces the danger of hairballs and other blockages and helps grind down their growing teeth. Hay should always be avaliable to a rabbit.

A guinea pigs diet must meet the following requirements:

  • 85% high quality grass hay

  • 10% leafy green vegetables and herbs

  • 5% pellets

Pellets are a good way to provide a guinea pig with concentrated nutrition.
