Dog Enrichment

Dogs are intelligent, social animals that need both physical exercise and mental stimulation every day. Enrichment helps prevent boredom, supports training, and strengthens the bond between dogs and their owners.

Toys & Boredom Breakers

Dog toys are not just for fun — they help support chewing instincts, reduce stress, and provide comfort. Different types of toys serve different purposes, including chewing, tugging, chasing, and problem-solving. Mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise. Puzzle toys, treat dispensers, lick mats, and scent games encourage dogs to think, problem-solve, and focus.

Walks & Exploration

Walks are one of the most important forms of daily enrichment for dogs. However, walks are not just about exercise — they are also about mental stimulation through new environments, smells, and experiences.
Allowing dogs time to sniff, explore, and set their own pace is extremely important for their mental wellbeing. Sniffing is how dogs gather information about the world around them, and it provides powerful mental stimulation that can be just as tiring as physical exercise.

Here is a guide to how long you should take your dogs out:
Puppies (0-1 year)5 minutes of exercise per month of age, twice daily (e.g., a 4-month-old puppy gets two 20-minute sessions)

Adults (1-7 years) - 30 minutes to 2 hours of exercise daily, depending on breed, energy level, and health

Senior (7+ years) - 30-60 minutes in shorter sessions throughout the day

Breed and Size Considerations

  • Small breeds: High metabolism but shorter endurance so multiple short sessions are reccomended. Examples: Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Shih Tzus

  • Medium breeds: Balanced endurance; suitable for walks, hikes, and moderate play. Examples: Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Boxers

  • Large and working breeds: Require extended, high-intensity exercise to prevent boredom issues. Examples: German Shepherds, Labradors, Huskies

Transform Your Dog’s Life with Training

Training is one of the best forms of enrichment for dogs, providing both mental stimulation and opportunities to strengthen the bond between pets and their owners. Positive reinforcement training helps build confidence, encourages good behaviour, and gives dogs a chance to learn valuable life skills in a fun and rewarding way.

Training sessions don't have to be long—just 5 to 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Activities such as recall practice, trick training, scent games, and hide-and-seek are all great ways to keep your dog mentally engaged.
